About Miss. Sharp
My name is Sarah Sharp and I am thrilled to be your child's 1st grade teacher! This is my second year as a teacher, although I had the privilege of student teaching here at Hawkins Street School for the 2017-2018 school year. I completed my clinical experience in Mrs.Pita's 1st grade classroom and worked very closely with the rest of the 1st grade team. I am eager to get to know you and your children and I am excited to see all that they will accomplish this year!
Personal Life: I am originally from South Jersey. I moved to North Jersey in 2013 to attend Montclair State University. After completing my student teaching at Hawkins Street School and receiving the opportunity to work here as a full time teacher, I decided to make North Jersey my permanent home.
Education: I completed my Bachelors degree in Family and Child Studies at Montclair State University in 2017. In 2018, I received my Masters in Education and I am certified to teach grades K-6 as well as Special Education. After working with the Spanish-Bilingual students in Mrs.Pita's class, I became interested to learn more about English Language Learners and how I can better provide instruction to all students- but specifically those who's native language is not English. I am thrilled to be working in such a diverse community that celebrates so many amazing cultures.
Philosophy of Education: I believe that our classroom should be student focused. Each and every child should feel that they have a purpose in our room and that their voice is heard and valued. I also feel that it is so important to get to know each student on a personal level. By having a strong understanding of their likes, dislikes, strengths and struggles, I will be well equipped to meet their needs as a learner and provide instruction that is appropriate for them. High expectations for learning and behavior will be established from day one. Students' positive behaviors will be constantly praised and rewarded in our classroom.
